Thumbnail in Top Posts & Pages widget displaying an image not in page's gallery
-
I noticed this evening that the thumbnail attached to one page in the Top Post & Pages widget is an image from another page. I checked to make sure that the image hadn’t been inadvertently added to the gallery of the page,’Bessie Smith: selected recordings, 1923-1926,’ to which it is being used as a thumbnail image in the Top Posts & Pages widget. It doesn’t exist in the gallery.
When, minutes later, I deleted the image in question, the thumbnail was replaced by a second image that is also not drawn from the gallery of the page to which it is being attached at the Top Posts & Pages widget.
While examining the problem I quickly realized that the issue only occurs when I am viewing a particular post, the leading post ‘https://songbook1.wordpress.com/2013/03/25/songbook-site-index-2/,’ which happens to have a fairly large, undisplayed gallery. The Top Posts & Pages is presently — and I’ve never encountered this issue previously in the past 7 years of using WordPress.com — drawing a image from the leading post to display as the thumbnail image of one particular unrelated page, ‘Bessie Smith: selected recordings, 1923-1926.’

At Top Posts & Pages, the Bessie Smith page previously mentioned is now displaying an image drawn from whichever page or post I am visiting at the time, if there is a gallery in that page or post. If there is not a gallery in the page or post being visited, then an image is drawn from the proper page gallery.

In the previous post, by “At Top Posts & Pages” I meant, “In the Top Posts & Pages widget.”

Today, I noticed that the link to another page at Top Posts & Pages is displaying the same thumbnail drawn from the page or post which I am visiting at the time rather than from the correct page. So, in the Top Posts & Pages widget the following two pages are now displaying a thumbnail not drawn from the page it is mistakenly representing, but drawn from the page one is visiting:
In fact, the links to these pages at Top Posts & Pages both display the same thumbnail drawn from the page or post one is visiting.

I’m having trouble replicating this (or maybe having trouble realizing that I’m seeing the issue.
Could you do me a favor and screenshot the section of top posts that shows the incorrect image?

@ rootjosh,
Hi. The two pages I mentioned are the only two that I’ve found thus far that have resulted in the affect I’ve described. Since they aren’t presently among the Top Posts & Pages you will not see the effect at this time.
I guess we’ll have to wait until perchance they appear in the Top Posts & Pages widget again, unless perhaps you, or I (with your permission), could temporarily artificially inflate the visits to one or both of those two pages so that you may see the described effect.
