Thumbnail not appearing when sharing site

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’ve only recently started my blog but when I want to share it on social media, linkedin or Facebook e.g., the link that gets shared is without a thumbnail which doesn’t look good. I’ve gone through every part it looks like but just can’t get a thumbnail.
The page I would like to share is the following: https://thelonesportsman.com/top-tips/
Anybody have any experience with this? I added a picture in the actual post as I read the sites would read that picture and use it, but that doesn’t seem the case.
    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @thelonesportsman,

If you don’t see an image at all when sharing to Facebook then this is usually due to the featured image or uploaded image not meeting Facebook’s size requirements – their size requirements are:

*At least 480×480 pixels in both width and height
*Aspect ratio of width and height no greater than 3; in other words, the width can’t be more than three times more than the height, and vice versa. An image such as the garden image below is too disproportionate for Facebook to use (300 pixels wide by 90 pixels high)

I just briefly looked at the link you are sharing and the image on the page isn’t at least 480 pixels in height and that’s why it’s not showing up on Facebook when you share it – your image is currently set to a maximum height of 350 pixels. So you need to either modify this picture or get another one altogether and then follow the instructions in the article below to forcefully update Facebook’s cache!

There’s a lot more detail about this in the following article: https://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-image-thumbnail/

I hope this information helps! Good luck :)

Would you have any idea whether it’s the same for Linkedin? I’ve changed the picture size and it now does appear on Facebook if I share it but not on Linkedin, does it need to be bigger for different social media?

  • Hi @thelonesportsman,

LinkedIn has their own image requirements with reference to their sharing module:

    *Max file size: 5 MB
    *Minimum image dimensions: 1200 (w) x 627 (h) pixels
    *Recommended ratio: 1.91:1

You can find additional details about making your website shareable on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/46687/making-your-website-shareable-on-linkedin?lang=en

    I hope that helps! :)

Thanks, tried the above but no luck unfortunately. Might be that Linkedin is blocking the content for some reason, I already increased the size of the image to the requirements set by Linkedin
