Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down

I think it would be a good idea to use a rating system for the way people use tags. I search tags using certain keywords and most people are simply abusing the tags to get more readers. I think WordPress should build in a voting/alert system that allows readers to flag inapplicable or misused tags – especially when it’s obviously blatant.

Why not post the link here and let people have a look at them and decide for them selve’s.

It’s up to Staff to deal with issues arising from global tag pages positioning. We members have no role to play in this process, and and posting links here so member can share opionions and/or start flamewars is not wise as it conveys the impression that members make such decisions when we don’t. -
ok TT, it’s just that i cannot understand how one could abuse the tag system, but then it’s maybe my age is to blame :)

I can and I repeat that I do not think it’s wise or appropriate to get into discussing this here on a public forum. This is a matter for Staff.

The problem with tag abuse is that people that want to find blogs based on content that is properly tagged. If I click a tag that says Boston Celtics, then I expect to find a blog that is somehow about, related to, or specifically dedicated to the Boston Celtics professional sports team. However, if someone abuses the tags and puts Boston Celtics on a blog that is about a chemistry homework assignment frustration, then it’s frustrating to WordPress readers.Tags should be used as to guide readers who are interested in content on that specific blog post. Putting irrelevant tags on a blog can be used maliciously to simply attract traffic to the blog, which is a misuse of the tag system. The tags are there to help guide readers to blogs they want to read. Relevant tags work to increase cross-traffic between blogs, expose bloggers to a greater number of interested readers, and hopefully cause more people to subscribe to the blog because they like the content.
Abusing the system to draw traffic that is not actually interested in a particular blog hurts the WordPress community at large, and the reading community specifically. If we abuse our readers, then when they get fed up with poor tag results, who will visit our blogs??
