Tiled Background image on 2010 theme.
-
My question….is there a way of having a background image on 2010 theme which is NOT tiled? And how do I calculate the dimensions if so? Do I add main column width to sidebar width? In this case 840. (main – 640 + sidebar- 200)
Thank you

There is no “set” size for a background image since it depends on the resolution of the display/browser window size that the site is being viewed on. With so many smartphones, tablets and such, as well as huge desktop monitors, you can’t really pick one size. If you size for the largest monitor, the image file size will be so large that your site will load very slowly.
In general, I would size a background image at about 1600 x 1200 maximum and save it at the lowest possible jpg quality so that the file size is reasonable. Then when uploading and inserting the image, select centered, no-repeat and fixed. Then also set a background color that is complimentary to your image just in case someone’s browser window is set larger than 1600 x 1200.

Thank you, TSP. I’ve re sized the image and I *think* I’ve saved it properly though I won’t know till I’ve played around with it. Working on iPad is no picnic in matters of JPGs and such.
Thanks again.

You’re welcome, and yes, working with images and such is a little challenging on iPads. Not yet ready to replace a desktop or laptop and I don’t expect they will be for some time really.
