Timepiece Theme: Width of uploaded images
-
The Timepiece example shows a photo with a block of gray at the left and a bar of gold at the bottom. It looks great with the black on either side, it really pops. I would like to do something like that, but when I upload the jpg it always comes up a few pixels short of the edges. If I use the large option, it’s bigger but still has white on either side.
Thank you in advance for your help.

What you’re looking in the Demo site (Temple in Bali) is an example of the Image Post Format. Here’s more about using Post Formats: http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-formats/
The colors above and below that post on the Timeline Demo site’s homepage I believe are determined by what Post Format is used, though I have not tested this thoroughly.
I’m not entirely sure that this will answer your question, but give it a try.

Also, here are the image quick specs from the Timepiece Showcase page:
Quick Specs
Custom Header (all measurements in pixels)
The header image dimensions are 1040 by flexible value (width, height). The header must be shown at 1040 wide but any height will do.
Content Width (all measurements in pixels)Single post and page layout: 1000 maximum content width
Home page and archive pages: 500 maximum content width -
Hello justjennifer
Thank you very much for answering, I appreciate you taking the time.. Unfortunately this does not help me.
The specs say maximum content width 1000, which is exactly what it looks like. But in the demo it is clear that the color blocks stretch all the way to the edge and that’s what I would like to do as well. It does not look good being narrower than the header. I tried putting 1040 directly into the formatting code but, as one might expect, it makes no difference. Anyone else have any ideas?

Never mind, I now understand how that was achieved, it was simple. Too simple. Thanks again.

I will have to do some experimenting a bit later, but it sounds like you might be confusing the front page/home page display and the single post display.
The header image (1040 pixels) is what appears at the very top of the home page and each subsequent page.
The home page and archives images (500 pixels) refers I believe to a post’s Featured Image. http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/
The Single post and page layout display (1000 pixels) refers to the maximum width of the images that appear when inserted in single posts and pages.
