Tinkering with Fushion

I’ve been making some changes to my shite – http://gregmunno.com – and have run into my lack of knowledge about a few things. Thanks in advance for any tips.

Page menus: The tagline, focus, theme of my blog/site is “Connect. Communicate. Create.” I’m playing with an idea that I would have all the internal content show up under those top level pages. But I think I rather have each of those page tabs simply work as a drop down, so that if you hover on “Create” you’ll see my portfolio tabs, but you won’t be able to click on “Create” and go to a page with that name. Is that possible? Do you think that would make navigation confusing or do you think it might work?

Home page tab: Likewise, to keep that motif as consistent as possible, I am tempted to remove the “Home” tab from the page menu. (People can always click on my name – the name of the blog – to return home. Is that possible and how would I do it?

Excerpts: I’m I correct that in this theme it is all or nothing with excerpts, that either all your posts are excerpted or none of them are? If possible, I’d like to have the top post be the full post, and the older posts be excerpts. Is that possible? Also, I’d love to have a thumb nail image with the excerpt, and then have the larger photos and slideshows visible when they click through to the full post. At one point in time, I thought I saw a “featured image” button, but can no longer seem to find it.

    Thanks again!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

sorry – one more questions. Is there a way NOT to have a comment box at the bottom of every page? I want one at the bottom of posts, but not necessarily pages.

For the menu, create a custom menu and you can include the tabs that you wish. To make a top level tab that doesn’t link to anything, create a “custom link” and put in the label and any link into it (doesn’t matter what as we will be removing that). Add that custom link to the custom menu then click on the right end of the title bar for that custom menu item, delete the link and save the item and save the menu. You can then add the other elements to the menu as you see fit.

To not have a home page tab in the menu, just don’t include one when you create your custom menu.

You can use the read more tag on each post if you wish, or on whatever post you want. The excerpt by default strips out all HTML from the excerpt (including images), but in the theme you are using, if you copy out your excerpt from the HTML tab and then paste it into the “excerpt” module down below the editor text area it will include the HTML (and the image).

As always thesacredpath, your advice is very much appreciated! Thank you.

Let me through one more question at you. I think it would be neat to have the RSS subscription link appear as part of the same line as the word “Category” above the post categories on the category widget. Or even if the RSS – Posts symbol and verbiage replaced the world category altogether. Is that possible?

Oh yeah, and how to get rid of the comment box on every page as well….

FYI: Resolved the comment issue. Under screen options.

No, it isn’t possible to have the RSS feed icon and link at the title for the categories widget and likewise difficult to move it up and to the right of the word categories. It isn’t so much that it cannot be moved up there, but that the sidebars can shift and change as you add things and move things around so you would always have to be tweaking the CSS positioning values to keep it where you wanted it. You can certainly put the RSS link widget above the categories widget although having it with the subscribe widget is the more logical place.
