  Heads up: I just updated the rich editor to TinyMCE 2.0.9. This should fix all past and future problems. ;-)

  I’m still seeing the bug I reported yesterday about

  <PRE><TEXTAREA>html code</TEXTAREA></PRE>

  causing TinyMCE/Firefox 2.0.0.1 to lock-up when you try to edit a post.

  If you take a look at the markup of the edit page you should see the reason for this problem. The Post box is a textarea, so your </textarea> tag has the effect of closing the box.

  We are not planning on fixing this. What you should do is escape the angle brackets.

  Ah, but what I am actually trying to do is put a code snippet inside a real TEXTAREA box.

  I thought I had to use the PRE tags in order to prevent the text inside the TEXTAREA box from having smart-quotes?

  You can create the effect of a textarea using CSS and overflow rules.
