Titan theme footer widgets

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to deactivate/remove the default widgets that come with the Titan theme in the footer. Is there a way to get rid of the links, pages, and search widgets from the footer? Since they aren’t visible, I tried adding widgets of the same type and then deleting them, hoping that might override the default, but the default remains. Suggestions?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I tried this in my test blog and I could replace all three footer widgets with other widgets of my own choosing. I’m using Firefox 3.6.4.

Which browser and version of it are you using?
    Please try this > http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

If that doesn’t work (do it a few times) then can you try an alternate browser and report back on what happens when you do?

Also as you have failed to provide a URL for the blog in question and the site linked to your wordpress.com username is not a a wordpress.COM blog , will you please post the URL for the blog in question, starting with http://

Normally we can place a text widget minus a title and any contents into a sidebar (footer) and that will eliminate any display at all. In this case that method failed in all 3 footers. I then tried inserting a period , backtick and single quote mark in the title field of a text widget and not inserting any content into them and this also failed to eliminate the default widgets (Links, Page, Search).

timethief, thanks for the suggestions. I don’t think it’s a browser issue.

Here’s the link to the blog: http://uosciencelibrary.wordpress.com/

From your final post, it sounds like you weren’t able to get rid of the widgets either, but thanks for trying.

@bwestra: Drag a text widget to each “Footer” cell.

    @Panos
As I said above I tried that in my test blog and it didn’t work for me yesterday. Did it work for you in your test blog today?

  • Unknown's avatar

I wouldn’t have suggested it if it didn’t.

I would not have said this didn’t work in my test blog the day before yesterday if that had not been the case.

Well, I just tried the empty text widgets “trick” again in my test blog and it was a no go. I can drag text widgets into the 3 footer sidebars from the Available Widgets box. I give them no titles and provide no content. I click “Save” and then “close” for each text widget in each of the three footer sidebars. When I view the blog the original 3 default widgets > Links > Pages > Search display and the text widgets don’t When I check the sidebar footer boxes on the Admin side there are no text widgets in them. They are empty.

So maybe what the OP and I are experiencing is the same thing. If so and if then bwestra is referring to a wordpress.COM blog (the one linked to the username isn’t a wordpress.COM blog) then he/she must contact Staff for help.

If he/she has a web hosted by any host other than wordpress.COM blog ie. a wordpress.ORG install then he/she needs to post to http://wordpress.org/support/forum/5 for help.

“When I check the sidebar footer boxes on the Admin side there are no text widgets in them.”

So that doesn’t mean the empty widgets trick is a no go, it means you cannot make the widgets stick. In that case, try adding them after clicking Screen Options and enabling the “accesibility mode”.

I have done that to no avail twice. :(

Then I’m out of ideas (as I don’t have to tell you about browser issues).

  • Unknown's avatar

Right. I have done the clear the browser cookie dance several times to no avail. Fortunately I have no desire to use the theme in question.

Thanks for the suggestion about the text widgets. I added one to each footer cell, put a non-breaking space in each as a place holder, and that did the trick.

Thanks for sharing that. It just tried it and it worked in my test blog to. :)
