title of post in Bushwick

When I post in Bushwick, I do not see the title of the particular post. Instead that title becomes the header of the blog. I have been using WP for a year and am trying to start a 2nd blog. Yesterday support told me I hadn’t configured my posts page, but I haven’t figured that out.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The blog I need help with is currently private because I am trying to get the kinks out before posting. Sorry if this is a problem.

    Hi there,

In the Bushwick theme, you’ll see the post title in your list of recent posts, and on the individual post page you’ll see the post title in the header section. You can see how that looks on the demo site: Bushwick demo site

If that’s not how you want your posts to appear, the Bushwick theme probably isn’t the best choice for your blog. Another theme that displays nice, big featured images but includes the post title right above your post content is Hemingway Rewritten — you might want to take a look and see if that’s a theme you’re interested in.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

Thank you, Rachel, for your time and attention. I think you were right — part of my problem is I expected beautiful Bushwick to do something it was not designed to do and then I was so confused I didn’t know what I was doing. I wish there were more templates that featured portrait photos (like Bushwick) as opposed to landscape photos. Of course, I can take that up when I go to Premium themes. At the recent bloggers conference at the American Book Expo in NYC “everyone” was migrating to WordPress and you Happiness Engineers are probably part of the reason.

I know what you mean — that featured portrait photo in Bushwick is really lovely. I’ll pass along your comments to our theme developers so they can keep that in mind as they work on new themes! :)

I also looked through a few other themes and thought you might want to check out the Confit theme. It’s a bit different in that the featured image is used as a background image rather than a header-style image, but it does work well for portrait images (and it’s a free theme).

As you’re looking at premium themes, you might want to check out the Kent theme. It has a portrait-style custom header similar to the Bushwick theme (although featured images won’t show up there – just the custom header image for the site).

If there’s anything more I can do, just let me know!

I did decide to try Confit and it is wonderful. I do have one more question : how can I make the text titles of the postings black instead of orange. I did convert the Header text from orange to black. Orange text came with the template and worked with the mostly orange photo that came with that template. Again, thanks!

With Confit, there’s a built-in way to change the Header text color, but to make other changes to the colors in the theme you’ll need a Custom Design upgrade. (That gives you tools to change the theme’s colors, fonts, and make other customizations using CSS.)
