"Titles", the text which appears when the cursor hovers over a link

    The html command is “title”.

    I like titles. I put in titles for links, giving an extract from the page linked to, so that the reader can decide better whether or not to click; they act like footnotes. They are really useful.

    Now, new titles I add are just disappearing. I know the correct html. What on Earth is going on? Why was the box on the “Add link” screen to add a title removed? How can I get my titles back?

    I just tried the workaround and it added the title attribute to my link: https://cloudup.com/cotLyaBFjcq

    This morning, it is not working for me. Yes, I was making titles by going to the html page, though I tended to put them before rather than after the link. I have checked and double checked, edited several times, checked my typing, checked what could go wrong, varied where I put the title in the whole…

    My title this morning was in a comment rather than in a post. That should make no difference at all.

    Why are they useful? Because they act like footnotes, and having something appear as the cursor moves delights the eye. Titles mean that you don’t need to click the link. If my old titles have vanished from hundreds of posts I will be very annoyed indeed.

    “Making things simpler”. This is an insulting lie. The form is no simpler at all, it has the same number of boxes, and now it has a stupid, useless box which, if you alter the text in it, alters your article to no useful purpose at all. Anyway, the program has been that complex for the four years I have been here; I grew into it, exploring it as I felt the need.

    Taking titles away makes a small number of people enraged, and a larger number of people seriously pissed off.
