To connect or Transfer my exisiting domain from BlueHost to WP.com (costs)?

  Hi,
  (I asked a form of this question in an earlier post but it may not have been clear)
  I have a domain registered with BlueHost which is about to expire in a couple of days. I want to leave Bluehost and move over to WordPress.com as my host and keep my custom domain. I am not sure if it’d be easier to connect or to transfer my existing domain (BlueHost is registrar). Documentation says that I can connect the domain first and transfer it to WP.com later for free. Is it referring to the act of transferring as being free OR, both, the transfer and the annual domain registration (my renewal)? Unfortunately, I can’t find anything in the forum topics or WP.com documentation search results on this.

  Thanks! Hope to get clarification by tomorrow, if possible, so I know how to proceed.
