To delete or not to delete…

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

Some years ago I’ve been creating a site for a shop: http://www.aupetitbonheurtorino.com

Now I’m not working with them anymore, so I wanted to get sure that my account is not involved anymore with their blog.

I logged in as aupetitbonheur and deleted myself as an administrator. As far, no problem.

Now under my sites that domain is not on the list, but there’s still a domain named aupetitbonheurtorino.wordpress.com, setted as private. May I delete it, too, or is there any risk that something happens with the site aupetitbonheurtorino.com?

The weird thing is: on the shop-site there are two domains, the one with expiration date (aupetitbonheur.com) and the one which is free (aupetitbonheurtorino.wordpress.com). So last seems to have exactly the same name as the one I wish to delete under my sites , but it links to the public site, whereas if I go under my sites and click on that name, it shows a kind of a test blog.

    Thank you in advantage
    Best regards
    Roberta

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • That is the question :)

You are mentioning three different sites here.

The site at http://aupetitbonheurtorino.com/ is a WordPress.com site, so it must have a free WordPress.com address connected to it, but I doubt it’s the same as your private site, as that site’s underlying address is set to public, otherwise it wouldn’t be visible. If you’re no longer an admin on that site, then you shouldn’t have access to its WordPress.com address, nor any upgrades connected to it.

You also mention http://aupetitbonheur.com/, which is a self-hosted site, so that’s not connected to any WordPress.com address.

On general principles I always advise against deleting, as there’s then no way to to ever use that address again. Perhaps consider transferring that private site in your account to the owners of the site with the same name (I assume you know who they are, having been an admin on that site yourself.

But if you prefer to delete it the system won’t allow you to delete a site that has an active domain upgrade attached to it.

Let me know if you have more questions about that.

here is a bit more info on what not to delete

    Primary Blog is Set

aupetitbonheurtorino.com is set as the primary domain for aupetitbonheurtorinodotcom.wordpress.com and will appear in the address bar when you visit the site.

don’t delete the underlying blog or everything will go away

You want to transfer any upgrades to another account so they will then pay for the upgrades

If you want the staff to help make sure you are not charged in the future – please indicate in small clear words what upgrades you want transferred to which different accounts, noting the account names

I will flag this for staff attention in case you need help with the transfer

Thank you very much for your answer.

I forget to mention that http://aupetitbonheur.com is a domain upgrade made on wordpress. And I was assuming, starting from aupetitbonheurtorino.wordpress.com… I don’t know, it was some years ago… probably the attached site is aupetitbonheurdotcom.wordpress.com.

Anyway, the important thing for me was exactly this: being sure that I cannot delete a site that has an active domain upgrade attached to it.
I simply tried it out, deleted the site and as I see, the official website of the shop is still alive.

Thank you again, I really needed to tidy up my account.
    All the best!
    Roberta
