To delete or not to delete….WordPress.com

  I had started building a blog on WordPress.com. Then I discovered I should really be using WordPress. So I deleted all the data I had input on WordPress.com. However, I read the warning that if I deleted the site, I would never be able to use the domain name again. I have started rebuilding my blog using WordPress, and using the same domain name. Can I safely delete the WordPress.com site? Currently, I just have it set as private so no one can read it.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  If the site has no content and is set as private, you have literally nothing to lose, although some people find it useful to leave a blog up in case someone wants to buy the URL or they want to test themes, etc.
