I am working on my website and it is telling me ‘To edit the featured image, you need permission to upload media.’ and I am the admin on all of the sites I am working on. I am also having problems with the Image Compare block because it is not letting me upload media.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

That sounds odd – can you tell me the size and format of the image being uploaded please?

    Many thanks.

I can upload the same photos to the image block but when I try to use the Featured Photo or the Image Compare it does not work.

All the photos are .jpg or .png and are between 2 and 30 mb.

Can you link us to a post or page (or the title of the post/page draft if you’re working on it currently) and a which photos in your Media library you’re using where you’re seeing this error so we can take a closer look?

Note: anyone designated as Staff on the WordPress.com forums are WordPress.com employees and has access to the backend of your site.

    Thanks!

I am trying to add a featured photo to this website and was trying to add a photo comparison to this website. On the second website I used the code editor to add it from another website.

So the photo isn’t in the media library for https://tritonco.wordpress.com/? Does it make any difference if you upload it to the media library first, before trying to use it in the Image Compare block?

And can you please tell us the titles of the specific posts where you’re trying to add these, and give an indication of which photos in the media library on each site you’re trying to use?

Please check if you run into the same issues if you log into your account using a different browser.

I logged in to my account in Google Chrome and all the blocks and featured photos are working.

  • Excellent. So the issue is with your browser – either it’s blocking some of the JavaScript code the featured image and image compare features use to work, or it could be a cookie issue, i.e. at some level it’s not detecting that you’re logged in, which would explain why it thinks you don’t have permission to upload media.

Are you using any browser add-ons? Disable those temporarily to see if that makes any difference.

Also clear your browser cache and cookies – clearing all cookies will log you out of everything, so delete only cookies for the domains wordpress.com, and wp.com. You’ll need to log back into your account after doing that.
