OceanMist is not easy since all the colorful background stuff you see are images. That means that to increase the width of the theme, you first have to create wider images to match what is already there. The following are the three images you have to recreate in wider formats.
http://s2.wordpress.com/wp-content/themes/pub/ocean-mist/images/bg_header.gif
http://s2.wordpress.com/wp-content/themes/pub/ocean-mist/images/bg_main.gif
http://s2.wordpress.com/wp-content/themes/pub/ocean-mist/images/bg_footer.gifThe CSS in OceanMist is not straightforward either and certainly will test the “common sense” of anyone with even a moderate level of CSS experience. That moderately experience person will also find themselves saying “WTF” far more often than they expect, and will have to change and adjust far more things in the CSS than they expect for what they thought was going to be a very simple project.
To see the “WTF” in action, go to appearance > edit CSS, delete all the introductory text in the CSS edit window, paste in the single following CSS declaration which widens the page by 100px and then click the preview button. Make sure and scroll all the way to the bottom to see just how much stuff has blown up.
#page {width:850px;}My suggestion: Choose a different theme with a wider sidebar, or one that has more sanely done CSS.
