To Happiness Engineers – about Classic Editor – unanswered question

@timethief – you aren’t a happiness engineer. My question will never ever pertain to you. You are not helpful. Thanks!

The purpose of forums is an open discussion … which individual questions to Staff doesn’t accomplish. It’s a sort of “transparency” which is much touted nowadays in many businesses.

It is also an opportunity to share opinions with other posters … pro or con. And as long as it is cordial, then variances of opinion are quite acceptable. What works for somepeople, doesn’t work for others. And that’s okay.

  • Unknown's avatar

She’s telling you how to contact staff. This isn’t working. It doesn’t work. You cannot rely on posting in the forums as a means of contacting staff.

  • Unknown's avatar

I mean, you’re free to keep posting here. But if you ask questions and are given the correct answers, you can’t really complain.

What you are really asking for is the attention of staff. We have told you how to get that, yet you persist in following a course of actions which will not be successful. You’re perfectly free to do so if you wish. We’re just telling you how to actually get what you want. You’re perfectly free not to do that either.

From the “Community Standards” sticky post at the top of the Support page:

These forums are a space where anyone can request and provide help for their WordPress.com account and sites.

    and

Every person has the right to ask and answer any questions, as well as participate in discussions and suggest new features

Since Happiness Engineers regularly participate in the discussions here, I assume they are included in the definitions of “everyone” and “every person”. Asking them a question directly does not guarantee a response from them, and there may be other ways to contact them which some posters may feel are more effective. But there is no reason why a WP user *cannot* post a direct question here that is intended for the Happiness Engineers.

  • Unknown's avatar

Indeed, and as I said, you’re all free to go ahead and ask. But you have been given more effective ways to contact staff and receive a response.

  • Unknown's avatar

@raincoaster Thank you. I’m glad to have that option.

But in the interests of transparency I feel a public forum is the best way to bring a problem or complaint to light.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi @cbiancardi,

I’m sorry if your original question wasn’t answered in the long thread. It’s certainly possible that it was accidentally overlooked.

@lizthefair – are any of the Happiness Engineers going to take our complaints more seriously? This has 30 pages and a poll with over 1000 responses, stating that the old editor button needs to come back as a default.
Why can’t this be done? I am a developer myself, and there is no reason why that button cannot be put back.

As stated in the previous thread, we will not be adding a link back to wp-admin to the new editor.

  • Unknown's avatar

@jeremeylduvall … Actually the question wasn’t whether the link would be restored. We have been told many times that it would not be. But why such a relatively simple request would not be honored. When it would seem that choice would be the better option all around, the question is one of why it isn’t being offered.

To many of us, the fact that a very well designed and operable system is being replaced by one which still seems to be in its beta stage … is puzzling. And so far, no answer has been given as to why.

  • Unknown's avatar

@jeremeylduvall I actually wanted to know why it wasn’t being reinstated. What are the reasons? Will WP close down the classic editor for good and force us to use this “new” version, which is buggy, doesn’t work well, and no one seems to really like it that much.

These answers will help me determine if I need to move my blog somewhere else, because it was the CLASSIC editor that sold me on WP over all other choices. I, along with probably thousands of WP members, if not more, will probably be moving if this is the case.

  • Unknown's avatar

Perhaps to clarify a bit here. We already know that WordPress doesn’t plan to include the direct link to the Classic editor. That has been reiterated many many times.

There really are only two questions many of us would like answers to.

The first is as to why a functional and very popular editor is being replaced by something which is certainly not welcomed by many long time users of Word Press. And which is clearly not an upgrade at this stage.

The second and most crucial question is whether we will continue to have access to the Classic version. I personally have always accessed it through my dashboard and consequently have evaded the Beep Boop thing from the first day. As long as that option remains, for most of us , the question of the direct link really isn’t that important.

If the Classic is removed, then I wouild like to be preparing now for that eventuality.

Perhaps you forgot this dated March 18th, 2015

The Classic Editor will continue to exist in wp-admin. We know some users prefer to use this editor, so we want you to have access to it, instead of phasing it out with the new version of the Dashboard. However, a link to the Classic Editor will not return to the New Editor. some users prefer to use this editor

Judging by the response to the new editor as documented on this forum, I would say “some” is an understatement. Another example of doublespeak from WP, along the lines of calling the new stats page “improved”.

  • Unknown's avatar

@fionamcquarrie … at least they didn’t say “clinically tested”. I guess they reasoned that wouldn’t fly. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello there,
    See here please:

The classic editor will continue to stay in place!
    from https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/bug-fixes-for-beep-beep-boop-editor?replies=13#post-2340308

That said we have known that since March 18th, 2015.

  • Unknown's avatar

@Timethief …. you beat me to the draw.

Of course choice with an easy link would have been preferable, but I’ve used the dashboard from the day I first ran into the Beep Boop.

At this point both sides of the controversy should be satisfied. I am.

  • Unknown's avatar

I would like for @jeremeylduvall to specifically answer the question that I asked towards him.

As I had believed that the link to the classic editor would remain and it no longer does, and the refusal to answer a simple question – why? – I would like this to be reaffirmed without a question of doubt.

Too many people have stated one thing or another. Again, only those who WORK for WP can answer these questions. People are free to post as many links as they want, but a member is still just a member and with no inner knowledge of WP.

    Hi @cbiancardi,

The Classic Editor will not be removed from WordPress.com. However, many of the links will continue to point to the New Editor as we continue to increase your ability to manage your sites (self-hosted or not) straight from the WordPress.com interface. You can read a bit more about this plan here:

Isn’t the entire site the “interface”?
