to my shame…
-
Hi all,
Readers Digest version is this: I have never made a blog before and to my shame and frustration, I’m not doing such a hot job of it now.Time is of the essence for me because I have it connected to my website, which is now live, so rather than stay with my usual course of action (just keep researching and experimenting etc.) I’m asking for help.
For starters.
1. The widget stuff – info I’ve seen suggests widgets can go to side of page for a 2 column look etc. Waaaaa….I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO MAKE/get A WIDGET or, how to “move” an existing one provided in the theme into the page. Best I’ve been able to do is add pre-existings to the footer (it’s called a “footer sidebar” in my theme.) Please, can someone tell me how to make it go on the side of the page? Also, my page looks very different depending upon how wide open I have my browser. This messes with my editing/format of articles/posts. I just haven’t found any help topics that address my particular failures or ignorance in this case.Is it a function of my free theme? Can I change themes on existing blog?
Thanks in advance for your patience and have a wonderful day!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

And yes, you can change themes. Just go to your dashboard, then appearance, then themes to select a new one.

Thanks gouis23,
I’d been to that link already. Problem is, I don’t have “appearance” in the dash. I have “customize” and from there, the “widgets” option, and the only default option avail. is “footer sidebar 1, 2, or 3” – nothing else.
I’ve taken a screen shot of my dash but I don’t know how to share it here.
If I’m able to change themes without losing my stuff, I may do so just to see if this is a peculiar aspect of the “kelly” theme.
I don’t know what else to try. -
yep, it was all “kelly” – I changed themes and have sidebar widget avail. (No footer or any other widget space), but it’s a start :)
Thanks for helping me get this far.
:)
