to pay or not to pay for the blog

  I am new at this blog thing and I am trying to understand a few things. First, if I purchase wordpress and install it on my server can I use it while travelling. If so, is it possible to access a remote server while abroad? I know that must seem like a silly question, but I am not clear if the format is the same for the “free” version vs. the paid version. I primarily want to purchase the wordpress site so that I can embed a map onto my blog. If anyone knows a way to do that without paying, let me know.

  WordPress is free. Worpdress will always be free. So said Matt in the past.

  What you could pay for is CSS upgrade to change the look or you could purchase more space. You could also buy a domain name. This of course is all for wordpress.com

  You could head over to http://www.wordpress.org, where wordpress is also free. You download and install it on your own server/hosting. If it’s on your own server make sure it’s connected to the ‘net. If it’s hosted somewhere then you will have no problem getting to it from wherever.

  What do you mean by “embed a map”. Just putting an image of a map up or an interactive map?

  Former, no problem anywhere, latter you’ll need to have your own hosting.
