To save time, add reminder where it will be seen.

This might save time: Add a reminder to add a link to the blog at the point where people click to start their question.

We’ve asked for this over and over. It hasn’t been done yet. Here’s the monster thread on it https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wpcom-not-wporg?replies=85#post-252952

This all goes on the assumption that people read things. After two and a half years here in the forums, that is not my experience.

The easiest way to do this is simple and can be done

    1. REQUIRE that people add their blog address
    2. setup some automated system that can tell whether or not the blog they enter is wordpress.com blog or not.

I have no idea why they couldn’t do this, that way if people don’t read then it doesn’t matter because they wouldn’t be able to submit the comment.

That can be done, and quite easily. My feeling is though that it will not be. I sometimes thing that staff likes seeing the volunteers run around in circles asking for a blog URL, then many times having to come back and tell the people they are in the wrong forum.

It’s broken, it always has been, and I doubt it will be fixed. I made your suggestion to staff, about two years ago and of course as you can see, they jumped right on it. :-)

If the note is right there where people click for a new question, they are more likely to add the link because this does not require that they have read something first. Human nature.

That is true, but again, you are assuming someone will read the note and if they did that they would comply.

If it is mandatory (they can’t post a question without including a link) that could cause problems as well. I’ve seen many in the forums who are very reluctant to give links to their blogs because they are private, or perhaps they are trying to stay low-key. In one case just recently, the blogger after providing a link to the blog here in the forum turned around and asked staff to remove the link because she wanted to keep things low-key and didn’t want the link to her blog in the forum.

Yes, I followed that thread with some interest.

Perhaps part of the problem of repetitious questions is that the search function on this forum does not work very well.

It’s based on what tags are applied to the questions?

And if that is so, then many common questions are not tagged well to find them again. Or rather to find the answers again.

We used to be able to find them by tags and even phrases very quickly but changes were made to the search function and now it’s not so easy.
