To share a private blog, to visitors have to have WordPress usernames?

I would like to make my blog private, only viewable to those who I invite. However, when I found the setting, I saw that I had to enter the wordpress username of those I wanted to allow to view it (as opposed to just an email address). This blog is for a class that my professors need to view, but I don’t want to make them to go through the trouble of creating a wordpress account that they will likely never use. When I was researched blogger, I saw that it only required an email address (not a blogger username). I really want to use wordpress over blogger. Is there anyway to share the private blog with people who do not have wordpress usernames?
    Thanks for your help,
    Nina

    Hi Nina,

Unfortunately, members of a private blog on WordPress must have a WordPress username. We do this so we can confirm that only people with permission are viewing your page.

As an alternative, you can password protect your posts and provide your professors with the password to view your posts. Directions on how to do this are available here:

If you password protect your posts, you will not need to mark your blog as private.
