To what extent can I modify my theme? (PORT)
-
Hi :)
I want to set up a static website to show my graphic design portfolio and I’m still not sure wether to make a self-hosted website or keep it easy and use wordpress.com. However, I already found a perfect theme (PORT) on wordpress.com. Unfortunately, the demo version does not show a contact site and, in addition, I would like to not use the ‘testimonials’ part cos I don’t need it.
Wordpress tells that websites don’t allow to install plugins and that they have their limitations in modifying them. I don’t know if I am able to add a ‘contact’-part and get rid of this ‘testimonials’-part.
Does anyone know if this works? If yes, I’d probably rather go for a wordpress.com site than a self-hosted.Can anyone help me? Hope I could describe my issue properly… Thx in advance

Hello!
Normally, premium themes (in both WordPress.com and self hosted) come with a lot of customization options. I have not used the ‘Port’ theme myself, but from my experience of using other themes, the theme should have options to remove the testimonial section. I’m not too sure about adding the contact form in the home page, since I could not see anything about it in the theme page. That said, there is a ‘Call to Action’ button at the top – you may very well use it to point to your contact page directly. :)
Also, I found a dedicated forum for all questions port. In case you have purchased this theme, you may want to ask your question here to get answers directly from the theme developer. :)

Dear Hari,
I’ll probably contact the theme developer as you suggested. Thx for your helpful answer.

Hi magdalelenahuber,
The PORT theme won’t display any testimonials if you set “Number of Testimonials to Show” to “0”. This can be found in the Customizer found in the Appearance tab.
I’m not sure what you mean by a Contact part, but you could add a Button in your Home page (it will appear in one of your panes) or set up a Contact Page and link it somewhere.
All the best!
