“Today’s Hot Posts”

I’m trying to get a feel for just how many people click on a post in order to make it one of “Today’s Hot Posts.” Any rough estimates?

You would not believe the huge numbers that are required to get there. If you check the forum search box I believe engtech gave some numbers awhile back.

I have noted that not always but frequently, posts from the VIP blogs are in the Top Posts as well as in the Top Blogs. And to give you some idea of the numbers for VIP accounts this is a quote from the policy found here http://wordpress.com/vip-hosting/

You may be a good candidate for VIP hosting if, for example, you get more than 500,000 pageviews a month on your blog.

The staff has also mentioned it’s not based on straight hits. I’ve gotten onto it with as few as 500 hits on a post, which normally shouldn’t happen. Nobody’s been able to figure out the secret formula, and staff likes it that way.

So do I because it means no one can “game the system”.
