Tons of Spam
-
I have a small blog (about 10 comments a week) and I have been getting about 100 spams every day. It started a couple weeks ago and has increased dramatically.
I have comments set so that a new commenter is moderated. I have tried blacklisting some words, but those words still come through. Does that take some time?
My blog is on a domain, run through a host that provided wordpress software. I don’t know how it is updated.
My blog is at http://www.moonfrog.com
Can anyone help?

I would recommend that you discuss this with your blog host. Perhaps he has installed Akismet from wordpress or perhaps not. You will not know until you ask.
If Akismet has been installed then:
Akismet needs to become educated. If you simply delete the spam instead of marking it as spam then no education takes place.
Akismet takes time to become educated – you must mark the same stuff over and over until she learns.
If you do not sift through your Akismet spam filter then after 15 days Akismet will “eat it”. -
I have been marking all the spam as spam for a few days. I don’t know what Akismet is???

I’m trying to be very polite so please bear with me. When you hire a blog host they provide you with service – this is what you pay them for.
I assumed that by posting to wordpress.com that your blog host had installed Akismet (a spam filter available from wordpress). I do not know if this is the case. Only your host knows which spam filter has been installed on your blog. Perhaps it’s not even an Akismet spam filter at all. Perhaps it’s a different one.
Suffice to say that when you hire a blog host they provide support.
Also note that people here regularly sift through and mark pages and pages of spam everyday that our spam filter, which is Akismet, catches. :)

Thanks! I am now protected by Akismet and it is working well. I do appreciate your help.
