Too many items?

It seems I’ve added too many items (pages and posts) to my side menu.
The menu options like ‘Reorder + Add Items’, as well as ‘Menu Locations
Here’s where this menu appears. If you’d like to change that, pick another location.
    Top primary menu (Current: Primary)
Secondary menu in left sidebar (Current: Secondary Menu)’
And all the rest are in between my list of posts and pages.

Probably because I added more posts & pages than the coder imagined would happen.

    Hi,

I see that some of your drop-down menus are rather long, particularly the menu under “1.1 GREED,” but what makes you think that there might be too many items?

Here’s where this menu appears. If you’d like to change that, pick another location.

This appears, at Customizing ▸ Menus ▸ selected menu ▸ Menu Location, on every WordPress.com site.

And all the rest are in between my list of posts and pages.

What you mean by this is not clear. All the rest of what?

The italics in my response above were accidentally added.

Well, since I cannot post images here, I posted the screen shot at the bottom of this page:

Thanks for the excellent screenshot of what appears to be an overflow of items into the Menu Locations and Menu Options sections of the panel. I haven’t seen that effect before, so I’m going to call for staff attention. Staff will respond here.

Yes, you may post images here. Perhaps staff will assist you with how to do that as well.

    Thank you.
I know I’m bad at describing it (no background in coding or websites), but I assume this has to do with an automated numbering system and me having… to many items. Or at least more than any sane blogger would ever be expected to produce :P

  • Probably because I added more posts & pages than the coder imagined would happen.

I think you’re right. I’m trying to load it up, but it seems to be taking a lot of processing power with the number of items there. This is well over a thousand menu items, correct?

You could try editing it in wp-admin in case it works a little better with a large number there. But, I suspect as difficult it is to edit the menu, it may also be giving your visitors trouble, especially if they’re on a phone.

Have you considered creating this as a site map of sorts instead?

Yes, it does take a few seconds to load nowadays, and sometimes the menu … well, arbitrarily moves things around (usually within one subset) and it takes me several attempts to set it back.

As for a site map, I did put in hyperlinks on all posts and pages to go back and forth with relative ease.

I am a little worried about it though, coz I’m planning to add a lot more…
