Too many post loading

How do I create a page that only shows the latest post?

I have a link view posts in reverse order (chronological), with a total of 50 posts loading that is:

    https://adventuresoflukeandlily.wordpress.com/?order=asc

    But is someone goes to:

    https://adventuresoflukeandlily.wordpress.com/posts/

Still 50 posts load, just not in reverse order. I guess what I would like to have three lins

    1. Chronologial Order (50 posts)
    2. The last 50 posts
    3. Just the latest post

Can someone help me format these three links?

    Thanks

    Henry

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Trying to understand what you are trying to do.

Do you wish to change the front page of your site, or a specific web page on your site to show only one post.

Did you go through the instructions here: Show your Posts in Chronological Order — Support — WordPress.com

Consider using the shortcode method for Display Posts Shortcode instead of the one you are using currently. That might help control the number of posts as there are parameters for the number of posts, dates, etc.

thanks for the reply, what I would like to have are three links on my already static home page.

    1. Chronological order (that I have already put in place using ?order=asc
    2. The last fifty posts, which is what happens when someone loads the blog, the last 50 posts all load and it is taking too long for some users.
    3. A link to a page that just contains the latest post solo.

    Hope that clarifies?

That clarifies and is a ton of work, especially as you have to update the Page to add that last link.

Here are the step-by-step instructions for two methods. You may have done some of these already.

Method One – Static Front Page and separate blog

    1. Remove the ?order=asc as your “home page”
    2. Create a Page called Home and leave it blank for now and Publish
    3. Create a Page called Blog and leave it blank and Publish
    4. Go to Settings > Reading > Front Page Displays
    5. Choose A Static page
    6. Set Front Page as Home and Posts and Blog and Save
    7. Return to Home and add the Display Posts Shortcode:
    [display-posts posts_per_page="50" order="asc"]
If you wish to feature only the posts from a specific category:
    [display-posts category="stories" posts_per_page="50" order="asc"]
    8. Update the Home Page and preview to ensure it displays the information you wish.
    9. Go to Themes > Menus to customize and adjust your primary and other menus if necessary

The Blog, which could be called “News” or something else, is another way for people to get access to not just your stories but other news and information. I do not recommend not setting a Blog page as it does improve navigation options, but that’s up to you.

    Second Method: Sticky Post.

    1. Remove the ?order=asc as your “home page”
    2. Go to Settings > Reading > Front Page Displays
    3. Ensure it is set to Your Latest Posts
    4. Create a post and name it whatever you wish like “My Book” or the title of the book.
    5. Use the above shortcode to display the posts. 50 post titles is a very long list. I’ve created the code to split the list into two columns for you, if you wish to use it. Here is the code for making this work: http://pastebin.com/Bs0XNJki You may style it as you wish. I’ve presumed a total width of over 600 pixels for your content. Play around with the width of the two columns to get it to look right for your needs. I’ve created a test example on one of my test sites so you can see how it looks.
    6. Set the post in the right category and add tags, etc. in preparation for publishing
    7. In the Publish box on the upper right of the Edit Post screen, click Visibility and choose Stick This Post to the Front Page.

This method will feature your reading list in a post at the top of your site, and the rest of your latest posts in reverse chronology below, which might remove your need to feature the latest post as it is below the list.

I hope this helps. For more information on how to do this and other techniques:
