Too Many Redirects Error

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

Within the past few days the error page “too many redirects” began showing up when trying to access my website. I have not made any changes to the domain name or anything related and I’m having trouble figuring out how to get the page to show up again. Please advise.

    Thanks!

IT looks like you are mapping to a WordPress.COM blog – but your name servers are not pointing to WordPress.COM – check with your registrar (Godaddy) and ask them what changed – were you using email with morethanlyme.org. ??

It almost looks to me like the morethanlyme.org domain was mapped using an A record (using IP addresses). That is not the right way to map a domain to WordPress.com because the IP addresses are subject to change. If that’s what happened, that would explain why it stopped working even though you haven’t changed the domain settings recently.

For WordPress.com domain mapping to work reliably and correctly, the name servers must be setup this way:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/#2-ask-your-domain-provider-to-update-your-dns-settings

Note that if you are using email addresses that end with @morethanlyme.org then you’ll want to make sure all the necessary records for email are moved over properly. Your domain registrar and email provider can help guide you if you need to keep email DNS records in tact.

In your case, I would recommend contacting the company where you purchased the domain and ask them to help you make sure the DNS records are setup properly according to the WordPress.com domain mapping instructions linked above.
