We bloggers do not have access to the template files underlying our themes on wordpress.COM hosted blogs and cannot edit them. This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme use the same underlying template found on the live demo site for each theme.
Does Customize let me edit HTML?
No. Customize allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. If you require this functionality, please consider moving your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications. You can read more about why here http://support.wordpress.com/code/, and find a suitable host here http://get.wp.com/hosting/.

Note 2: You can also post there prior to purchasing an upgrade to get an answer to whether or not what you want to do can be accomplished via CSS editing. -
I’m not talking about upgrading or customizing, but what to do when a template does not show as it appear in demo.
Am thinking it’s something to do with menus or …widgets…. but why would that Menu button *say* “Menus and Widgets” ? Don’t want it to. Uninstall theme & reinstall? Ideas?

The theme is performing exactly the way it is designed to perform. See here please: https://wordpress.com/themes/ecto/ and here https://ectodemo.wordpress.com/

Hi @humorzo, @timethief is right; it’s the way this theme is designed.
If you have an upgraded plan that supports CSS, you can change it with that:
http://wordpress.com/plansWe’ve also filed a request to be able to customize that label (or hide it) but for now it’s how this theme works. I hope that helps.

Okay, got the small bar to say only “Menu” — by experimentally deleting all widgets — but sneaking suspicion I screwed up on Menu Locations. maybe not moving widgets into Customize Menus …
Y’all are great. Aside from header image not showing up half the time, I think I’m good to go. For now.
Thanks,

Yeah this particular theme has just the one widget area. If any widgets are active, you’ll get “Menu & Widgets” . So if you have to have widgets and that wording bothers you too much, you might just try a similar theme. I hope that helps!
