Toolbar in Classic/Visual no longer locked in place

I always use the Visual editor and Classic mode (sorry, hate the Block format) but suddenly the Toolbar and the buttons above it (such as As Media) are no longer locked in place. This means that each time I need to add an image, I have to position the cursor, then scroll the entire screen up to where the button and Toolbar is, in order to get into the Media Library and insert the image. Then I have to scroll back down to that spot to resume editing. This is a monumental PITA, as you can imagine, because my posts are long.

Oddly enough, if I switch to the Text tab, the Toolbar and Buttons are locked in place as normal, and I can scroll the body of the post as I need to.

I have tried logging out, clearing my browser cache, and trying again, but that made no difference. Firefox is up to date with version 85.0.2 and I have disabled any browser add-ons that could possibly interfere.

How can I lock the Visual editor’s toolbar and Add Media buttons in place as they used to be? Yes I can use the Text editor in a pinch, and keyboard shortcuts for bold, italic, link and headings, but it takes twice as long that way. Help? Thanks!

Hi there, this is a known issue with FF 85 and the Classic Editor in WP Admin and has been reported to the developers. https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/49729

Thanks so much for this info! Glad to know it’s not just me or my hardware, lol. Hopefully they will issue a fix soon.

Have a great day and stay well!

An update just FYI for the developers: my Firefox just updated to 86.0 and the same problem still exists in that version. So it’s a glitch in FF86 as well as FF85.
