    Read this:
    1. Log in to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ with your Google account.
    2. Enter your blog URL and click Add Site.
    3. You will be presented with several verification methods. Choose Meta Tag.
    4. Copy the meta tag, which looks something like
    <meta name=’google-site-verification’ content=’dBw5CvburAxi537Rp9qi5uG2174Vb6JwHwIRwPSLIK8′>
    5. Leave the verification page open and go to your blog dashboard.
    6. Open the Tools Page and paste the code in the appropriate field.
    7. Click on Save Changes.
    8. Go back to the verification page and click Verify.

    At point six there is an example but no field to paste the google verification tag into. Same in IE and Firefox

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    You need to paste only the content string into the text box beside the “Google Webmaster Tools” label.
    For example you only need to paste
    Bw5CvburAxi537Rp9qi5uG2174Vb6JwHwIRwPSLIK8 in the test box.

    I tried this as well as the html code method. Both dont seem to work today. Its surprising ..in the past the html code has worked fine. I wonder if there is something amiss with WordPress..or what am I doing wrong?

    Ok this is tricky. I have verified my domain name paulamoorethechiropractor.com by copying the meta tag etc. All worked and am now indexed. The problem is this-I own the domain http://www.paulamoorethechiropractor.com and so really I want the www domain indexed but I have a wordpress.com blog. Can I paste a second meta tag into the webmaster tools verification bar? If so, how do I separate the two tags (one for the domain without www and the same domain with www)??

    Am I missing something? Any help really appreciated.

    No. In your Google webmaster account you can indicate your URL preference. Google and the other big two search engines support a format that allows you to publicly specify your preferred version of a URL.
