Top Authors on Stats page – is this new feature? Comments edited by commentor
-
I have a wordpress.com site: iamanafterschoolspecial.wordpress.com
Theme: ChateauRecently when in STATS, a new feature or STAT appeared: Top Authors. There is my gravatar and a dropdown arrow that when clicked displays my posts and I guess the posts that I published stats.
Also on the right is the total number of views for the author – audacious amateur blogger – which is me (the only user assigned to the blog, I checked the Users tab in the dashboard and only 1 appears, me)
That number is different from the total at the top of the stats page
So, is this a new feature of the stats page?
Why would the number of views be different and why would it show this option if there is only one user – one author?Should I have concerns about this?
I have had trouble in the past with email address that were not mine, not authorized by myself and not anyone I know being “associated with my domain” -> words used by a spam emailer what I called to find out why the email she sent was to me and the other email address – who had privately contacted me via my blog email.
So I guess in short, my question again is, is the “Authors” feature new to the stats page or has another auther been added without my knowledge?
ALSO – comments. I have noticed comments made by users were modified – not by me. This is probably a real problem right? how would someone be about to edit their own comment?
Thanks for your help and .. assistance with all that I do not know!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Though we Volunteers are noticing changes to widgets and our Stats pages, there has been no announcement regarding the same, so I can’t your questions. The modus operandi here at WordPress.com is introduction of new features and changes to existing ones by stealth. That is why I tagged this thread for a Staff response.

Say what?

Top Authors is a relatively new stats module. Typically, we don’t announce major new features until we’re happy with them ourselves, and we don’t announce minor new features (like this one) until they can be part of a larger announcement.
As for the comments, why kind of modifications are you referring to?

It is all kind hard to explain. These “issues” I’ve been noticing.
First I was to note I blog, respond and edit comments using the WordPress app very often.
I changed the email address associated my blog and gravatar about 3 weeks ago for security reasons. Afterwards, I noticed comments I made or responses did not contain my gravatar. After a whole the gravatar reappeared and the new email was associated w the comment.
I know I had to change my email to login on the web but I honestly don’t recall if I needed to do that for the app.
Anyhow. A while later I reverted back to my original email/login. I made this same change on my gravatar page.
One issue: some comments I make my gravatar and email are displayed on my app in the comments section. Others show no picture at all nor an associated email.
These are all comments I make on the Internet not the app. App comments appear w gravatar and email
Regarding comment modifications.
It happened twice with the same commenter.
I received the email notification of his comment and what it was. Then when I went to reply I saw it had changed in the system. The content was not the same as in his email. Remaining was a blank comment space where original had been. The second time was later that day. He again, commented and I actually viewed it first on the app. I saw he repeated the first paragraph at the end of the comment too, like a typo. The. Like literally a minute later it was amended.
For about 10 min after the change I could still see the old comment when I hovered over it on the app but not click into it. Then that ability went away.
So… Some…. Weird stuff eh?

Depending on how the comments were left, they could have been made with a WordPress.com account, or commented as quest where you fill out the name/email form. That’s usually the cause of the discrepancy.

Do you mean that the comment left on the blog was blank, when it had content in the email?

The sounds like just a momentary syncing glitch in the app, nothing to be too concerned about.
