Top Blog Stats
-
Hi guys,
I have a question about how the Top Blogs are selected. Talking with a friend here a wp.com, he said his blog got 802 views and my blog 5,400 views; but when I go to Top Blogs Stats, his blog is the place 56th and my blog in 76th… so I guess the Top Blogs depends from the recent posts stats, because I get a lot of traffic from my olddest posts. This is right?

This is how (blogs of the day) http://botd.wordpress.com are determined http://botd.wordpress.com/about/
This is additional information on stats http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/02/09/questions-about-stats/
All queries regarding stats should be sent by feedback (button on top right hand corner of every blog page) to Andy. -
One thing I’m noticing is that, while on the WordPress.com home page the Top Blog and Top Post lists are dynamic, the ones on my dashboard seem stationary. I sent a feedback but the guys said they weren’t experiencing the same thing; is anyone else noticing this as well? I know that the rotating Top Blogs and Top Posts is something I support very strongly, so I’d like to be sure that’s what’s showing on peoples’ dashboards as well as just that one page.

The Top Blog list remains static for a day or so I’ve noticed. The Top post lists sort of switches around but mostly it’s the same posts for a day or so. Sometimes I feel they are not changing but I could be mistaken. Also I too get a lot of traffic on my old posts, more than my new ones. Just when I have given up on some post…whoosh! Suddenly 50 views in a day! I think that is because someone stumbles on something by accident and then passes it around. And I never see my post in the new posts list but that’s because there are 50,000 posts a day Mike said when I asked. These change so fast that there is no hope of catching oneself on them. And I guess if one posts at a particular time when everyone else is posting then one might not be on the page at all except for a fraction of a second!
Anyhow I love blogging and today I wrote a post just on that. Never thought I would ever write on blogging! -
I, too, love the way a post can go unremarked for days, weeks or even months, then blam, it rockets away. Even better is when it suddenly drops out of sight only to flash back again months later.
I did find myself on the Growing Blogs list once, but that was also due to serendipity. For some reason, my blog had zero hits two or three days running, then soared back to the 400s the next day. As a result, I appeared to have huge growth.
