TOP BLUE BAND IN GARLAND

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there, I need some help to understand how to customize Garland. I have successfully changed the background colours etc. Everything is fine unless I insert a sticky post or a static front page. When I do that, a blue band (the default Garland colour) appear on top of the sticky post. And looks terrible against my new colours.
Can I eliminate this band of colour? The only way I found to avoid the problem is not to make the first post sticky. This means that every time I publish a new post I also need to re-publish the top post. It is time-consuming.
Otherwise I am very impressed by Garland and I warmly recommend it to all who want a larger readable area for posts and pages. Great stuff!
Can anyone help? Thanks, Paola Emma

I’ve moved this to CSS Customization for you :)

Background color to the post title is one of the standard ways of differentiating a sticky post. Since Garland is color customizable, that bar should also be customizable (but Garland was designed before the introduction of sticky posts). I sent this suggestion to staff about a month or two ago, and they told me they’ll consider it. Till they add that option (if they do), you cannot eliminate the blue bar unless you buy the CSS upgrade.

But it only shows on a sticky post, not a static page.

Thank you for prompt answer. My solution, before I upgrade would be the static page, I suppose. I tried it, but I cannot get the posts to follow under the static page like they do with the sticky post. i found the navigation more difficult with the static page.
It is most probably because I don’t know how to set it up to do this.
Do I need to start a new query about this? I am a novice. Ciao.

    You’re welcome.

Yes, you “cannot get the posts to follow under the static page”. Your blog front can display a number of posts or a static page, not both.

Yes, navigation with the static page is more difficult, plus your Google ranking will suffer as well.

Possible alternative: put your intro in a text widget top position left sidebar.

On another issue: a) The more categories and tags per post you use, the more you risk being excluded from the global wp pages. b) Categories and tags are one and the same thing: there’s no point using the same word or phrase as both a category and a tag, plus if you do that you may run into technical problems I needn’t explain now.

hI panaghiotisadam, thank you very much for your advice. I will change this cathegory/tag thing; I mean using different key words. And also use less, if less is better. Thanks again. I wish it was a bit simpler for beginners. Ciao
