Top-level password protection for a blog
-
I realize that there’s an option in Settings > Reading to make my blog private but I don’t want to require that viewers have a WordPress account to visit any or all pages on my blog. Ideally I’d be able to ask people to enter only a password before have access to the site, similar to what’s offered in this plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/password-protected/installation/. Is that possible? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No that is not possible on a free hosted WordPress.COM blog.
There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we bloggers cannot install any plugins.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes anything at all stated here http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ FTP access, and plugins are available only for VIP bloggers http://vip.wordpress.com/our-services/ or for those with WordPress.ORG installs.
