Top posts’ spacing issue
-
I’ve been working on categorizing my posts but a weird side effect(?) is that there’s suddenly a long blank space between my two top posts (“Gridlock” and “Marbella”) that wasn’t there before, and I haven’t the slightest idea how to close it up. Or maybe it will just vanish as mysteriously as it appeared : ) TIA
-
You have a pile of these
<p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>between those posts.
-
So I will simply delete all that stuff and the space should close up BUT, if I copy one of those lines and insert it after each one of my Links, will I add one space between them? I’ve never messed with code before but whatthehell.
-
I don’t see boblets’ pile of symbols in either one of the two posts’ edit boxes. How do I see what is between the posts?
-
Hm. I had a look at your source code, and it it there, in the first post. Make sure you look for it via the html editor. You have a few other oddities in your code too, but it seems to make no problems…
-
The unnecessary pile of code is not between your posts, it’s in your “Gridlock” post, right after your mail. Did you check your HTML editor insted of the Visual one?
If you want extra blank lines, that code usually gets stripped away; use this:
<p align="none"></p>
(But you can’t respace your links: they are handled by the link widget.) -
-
(haha- this is getting a funny, panaghiotisadam! :-)
buyathread – try our suggestion and let us know how it goes. -
Here’s what I see in my Gridlock post right after my mail:
style=”color:#666666;”>(email visible only to moderators and staff)</span>.</p>
<p style=”text-align:left;”> </p><p style=”text-align:left;”></p>
</div>
</div>
</div> -
hm..to get code visible in the forum, you need to put it between backticks `
If there are space, carriage returns, enter, lineshifts between the
style="color:#666666;">(email visible only to moderators and staff)</span>.</p>
and the first</div>remove them. -
ah..and I reckon you can delete those two here
<p style="text-align:left;"> </p> <p style="text-align:left;"></p>what do you say, panaghiotisadam?
-
hehey, panaghiotisadam – I agree :-)
I just thought we’d do this one step at a time.
There is a pile of junk code in other parts there too, for example masses of<div><strong></strong></div> -
-
“Well, Dr. Watson, make sure no one leaves this room until this is cleared up! There is a fishy smell here, and not a herring should pass through that door. Yes, I think it is safe to say that the suspected culprits name starts with a W..”
-
Please, people, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t know anything about code so: (1) please agree on what is causing the spacing problem and (2) somebody tell me step by step what to do. I don’t want to screw my site up now.
-
The firm of boblets & panawhatever suspects you’re pasting text from Word, which you shouldn’t be doing.
-
Fair enough, sorry about that, it was just dramaqueen in me peeping through.
Copying from word is a baaaad idea. Word will give you piles of invisible code, that will mess up your blog sooner or later. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/09/why-not-to-use-word/
Did you try the suggestion I made previously, of deleting these:
<p style="text-align:left;"> </p> <p style="text-align:left;"></p> -
Hmm. I may have from time to time pasted text from Word — although I wouldn’t swear to it– but now that I know that I shouldn’t, I won’t.
However this spacing problem started this morning and I haven’t touched that post for days, except to add a category. And I never even looked at the html editor.
-
But -to answer my respected colleague’s question- you did delete the garbage code, as your post appears ok now.
