Top Posts Widget

Is there a way to configure this widget so it doesn’t include ‘pages.’ When I added the widget, it showed ‘about’ as a top post and I just want it to show my blog entries from the normal, main page. I removed the widget for now until I decide if I can do this. Thanks. :)

Until recently it showed only posts as one would expect but then came “dignity for pages” http://wordpress.com/blog/2007/06/14/dignity-for-pages/

Can you change it? Not in any way that I’m aware of.

Thanks for the info…seems like a lot of people like the idea so the majority rules..hehe. A shame though because it just doesn’t work well in my blog. :)

I don’t believe that “majority rules” has any application whatsoever to wordpress.com decision making. This is no longer an open space environment. This is a corporate environment.

If majority rule had counted for anything then wordpress.com would not be running google adsense ads on our blogs because the feature that was considered to be the best of all when Matt asked us last summer was “no ads”.

And as far as finding starry eyed fanboys who will ooooowww and ahhhh over each new gizmo added it’s not hard to find a majority, who will jump up and down with glee with the advent of every new bit of “tat” that’s introduced. Some bloggers seem determined to support management eliminating each and every difference there is between wp.com and myspace and blogspot.

But, this does not address the topic so I’ll say no more about it.

I have the same problem with the Top Posts widget. I wish to display the “Top 5 Posts” but my “About” page seems always to sneak in as well. Since it’s NOT a “post” I would prefer it not to be included. Also, so long as it’s there, it attracts more views of that page!

You can always make a text widget with “Best pf pemadesign” on it and put that in. It’s not dynamic, but it does give a way to display posts that you think need more exposure.

Thanks for your comment, Raincoaster. Yes, I had thought of a static/editable list for this but I already have something similar which I’ve named “Permalinks” for those few selected posts that have disappeared from the dynamic lists. But no worries – I’m more than happy with what WP offers us!

It would be an incredibly useful feature to be able to disable some pages so that they do not show up in the “top posts” list. Perhaps the same way you are currently able to disable comments on some pages.

There are several bloggers posting on our blog, and when you add together all of our “bio pages”, the “about” page, and our “contact” page, they can end up occupying more than half the spots on the “top posts” widgets.

What do you think, WordPress? Any possibility of this?

    Thanks.
