top posts widget

    Hi,

Is there a way I can change the top posts widget into one taking into account last month not just last 48 hours – using CSS?

Also is it possible to add images to the top rated widget?

    Thank you!

  • Hi there,

Is there a way I can change the top posts widget into one taking into account last month not just last 48 hours – using CSS?

It isn’t possible to change the Top Posts & Pages widget in this way, as it uses a special algorithm that’s not customizable.

Also is it possible to add images to the top rated widget?

The only options are the ones you see in the widget configuration area, as you can see here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/top-rated-widget/

Just let me know if you need further help.

Oh thank you. I have just read in forums that somebody changed the time of top posts into one month manually – I thought they meant CSS?

Basically what I need is any widget that will show some images with links to my posts – I post only weekly so top post will not work. Is there any way to achieve this in my case? I can even choose the posts myself – I don’t mind. :) I just want to add some colour to the blog :)

Could you provide a link to this post so I can take a look?

You could try using image widgets for this. You would need one for each post you select, manually adding an image and URL for each one.

Even if you only post once a week, you can try using the Top Posts and Pages widget – it’ll still work fine! It just won’t vary very much from day-to-day. You might want to give it a try and see how it goes.

Sure :) the link is here:

    Top Posts Widget

    and the post is this:

    “Sports Snob

Cant it be done for a longer period than 48 hours? How about a month? That would be the best. I hope you guys are working on that.

As of now I have put it up manually.”

I did try the top posts already – but since my readers come to my page only when I post – other days there are no hits. is there a way for the widget to freeze once there are no hits?

I will try the image widget though and will let you know :) Thank you!

  • Thanks for the link – looks like someone was just asking whether the time frame could be expanded, not saying that they had actually done it. :-)

Let me know how it goes with the image widget.

No, the widget displays posts and pages dynamically.

I did try the image widget and it does not display the image :( All I get is a little page logo which when clicked does direct me to the post I wanted but no image… :(

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thank you for your help!

Oh but they said ” As of now I have put it up manually.” Unless I misread it completely I thought it meant they did it manually…? :)

I’m not sure exactly what they meant but there is simply no way to modify this on the user’s end, sorry. :-)

Could you please provide a link to the site where you set this up so I can take a look? Thanks!

    haha :) It’s a shame :)

Sure – my site is http://bezego.com/

  • Hi there, for the image URL in the widget you need to add an image file path, ending in an image extension like .jpg, .gif, .png, etc.

Right now your image URL is http://bezego.com/2013/04/20/co-to-jest-cham-walutowa-teoria-umyslu/currency/#main – which isn’t actually an image path. That’s why it’s not working. :-)

You can grab the image URL from this screen, by copy-pasting it out of the File URL field at the top right:

    https://bezego.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=297&action=edit

That will give you this path:

Let me know how it goes!

    Thank you! it works! :)

Oh sorry I feel like such a moron – for some reason I cannot reduce the width and height of the images :( Could you help me with that…? :(

  • You should be able to modify the dimensions of the image by changing the height and width values in the widget settings, here:
    http://cl.ly/image/2u321T021b2F

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes. This is what I have done. For some reason the image does not respond :(

  • Unknown's avatar

I have put 640×150 for one and 350×350 for the other just to test it and they still keep their original dimensions.

  • Hi there, it looks like the second image URLs isn’t quite right, so any height and width attributes won’t be applied. It currently looks like this:

    https://bezego.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=imgedit-preview&_ajax_nonce=08e3e51552&postid=1329&rand=11272

You’ll want to change it to a file path that ends in .jpg as we did before.

For the first image widget, I changed the width to 200 pixels and the image is now displaying smaller – have a look.

640 pixels wide won’t work as that’s too wide to fit in the sidebar – it’ll automatically be reduced so your layout doesn’t break. :-)

  • Unknown's avatar

ok. slowly getting there :) thank you

so the width is perfect – the height does not respond to my numbers though – or it is not meant to respond and the image keeps the original proportions…?

is there no way for me to have squares out of rectangulars…?

(again I put in different heights – just to test :))
