  ‘ most viewed ‘ and ‘ most liked ‘ – is there any way of having posts that have a specific number of views (or likes) substituted instead.

  Peter, you can choose likes or views from the settings in the widget at appearance > widgets (which you have most likely already seen), but there is no way to set it for a specific number of views or likes, even in CSS.
