Top Rated widget not showing any links.
-
I added the “Top Rated” Widget to my site (hosted on WordPress) and it doesn’t show any links in the widget on my site. I’ve confirmed that some of my posts do have ratings on them (though very few and not very recent). Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Am I just misunderstanding what this widget does?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We can’t help you without a link to your blog, starting with http. We pretty much always need to SEE what’s going on to provide answers. And we ALWAYS need to double-confirm the blog host; fully a third of people are posting in the wrong forum.
-
Sorry about that. I thought it would be included with the post since I selected it in the “Select the blog you need help with:” drop-down.
The site is softwareplusplus.wordpress.com aka improvingsoftware.com

It’s probably related to the weirdnesses going around. Staff must be tinkering with things behind the scenes. I’d take the widget out and try again tomorrow, once they’ve had time to fix things.

If it’s been several weeks then I suggest contacting staff. http://support.wordpress.com/contact/

@johnfx, first off, I don’t see that you have “ratings” enabled for your posts. I see ratings set for comments, but not for posts.
The “top rated” widget will only show if you have ratings enabled for posts, and people have actually rated your posts. If no posts have been rated, then it cannot determine what is top rated; everything is zero.
-
Oops, the top rated will also show top rated comments or pages if you have it set that way.
Forget what I said above and follow t3ck’s advice and contact staff directly.
-
I actually do have ratings enabled for my posts and according to the stats on my site several posts have been rated.
The ratings box only appears when you click on a link directly to an article, not on the main page (for some reason I don’t understand). Click the permalink at the top of an article (for example http://improvingsoftware.com/2009/09/23/wanted-universal-key-to-open-our-front-door-fail/) and you will see the rating widget.

That was a response to thesacred path’s comment “@johnfx, first off, I don’t see that you have “ratings” enabled for your posts”
I was explaining why he might not have seen that ratings were enabled, not that the widget controls when the ratings control is enabled.

Ratings do not appear on the main page. Staff has been working on it since the introduction of the Ratings Feature to try to get it to work, but so far no go. That’s a known issue.

Okay, so back to the original question. What can I do to make the “Top Rated” widget work. Is it working for anyone?
-
It hasnt worked for me either,
I have tried the everyday for the last two weeks,
not like I know anything about wordpress since I am a fairly
new user, but raincoaster is probably right, they must be
working on something behind the scenes. -
Same for my blog here at wordpress.com. Shouldn’t this be a very very simple widget? I bet its only a few lines of code. I don’t get why it’s taking so long to solve an issue like this one.

I’m getting a little discouraged with wordpress.com. I wish I had done a little research beforehand. The Ratings and comments are two fo the main reasons I started a blog and the ratings don’t seem to work and by the looks of the posts WP.com can’t get it to work. Discouraging. I’ll give it a few more days and I’ll have to go .org. Luckily I’ve just started so it won’t be as big a transition.

Used to have the same problem when the rating feature was firstly introduced but not anymore. Trying to customize the way it shows up on posts and or comments a little from your dashboard => ratings => settings => advanced settings
http://[yourdomain].wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=polldaddy_ratings
may do the trick. Well, it works for me so hopefully work for you either.
