Total custimizeing of my blog… HELP!!

  • Unknown's avatar

OK; I have a lot of questions so i’m just going to ask them all in one post, if you can’t answer it would be really cool if you would be so kind and send the post to a friend that might know the answer/s. (My blog is KreenSkreen.WordPress.com.)

(I am using WordPress.com (free version))

How would I go about taking the sidebars totally out of my blog; I have tried going to [Links > Link Categories] and deleting it but, it does not let me delete every category (I must have at least one). Even if it did let me delete every category I would still have troubles ‘Archives’, ‘Blogroll’, and ‘META’.

Secondly I would love to know how to change the footer, where it has the Blog name, WordPress.com, theme name, and theme designer credits.

I am totally aware of WordPress.org, and it’s features. If the things I requested simply can’t be done on WordPress.com then I am more than happy to switch, I know PHP, CSS, HTML, Java etc., however I would be very disappointed if I can’t transport the work that I have already done on WordPress.com.

Help on the topics would be GREATLY appreciated!
(If anybody would like to privatly contact me, for whatever reason, my e-mail address is (email visible only to moderators and staff))

Hi. This article should clarify how to remove the default widgets:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/09/28/the-no-widgets-paradox/

And this post explains about the footer:

You’re welcome. Just a word of advice: please don’t use tags like these in the future, because it doesn’t help other users like you:
    – I know PHP
    – if you can’t answer it would be really cool if you
    – OK; I have a lot of questions, so i’m just going to
    – for whatever reason
    – etc.

To better understand how tags work in the forums, I suggest you take a look at the most popular tags:

    @kreenskreen

I think it’s important to know that wordpress.com is a WP-MU blogging platform. Most of the themes here were all originally coded to run on free standing wordpress.org software installs. In order to run on wordpress.com software they were “adapted” and some features were eliminated. As this is a WP_MU blogging platform we cannot access and edit the underlying php and html in the templates. The themes we use here are all derived from shared templates.

you can get the paid custom CSS upgrade and renew it annually. It will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but it does not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to wordpress.com. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes here at wordpress.COM.

If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/

If you do purchase the upgrade be sure to read this article before starting your editing > http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/if-you-have-the-wp-com-css-upgrade/

If you are thinking of moving to wordpress.ORG over the long term it’s important to know that any CSS editing you do on a wordpress.COM blog theme cannot be exported to wordpress.ORG. You may be able to find a version of the theme that runs on wordpress.ORG software but the CSS editing will have to be done again.
