Total newb in over her head

    Hi all!
    Here’s the rub:
-I’ve got my domain name on WP.
-I signed up for Host Gator.
    -I downloaded an FTP (winSCP)

    Now. What.
Please, I don’t need any comments on how I may have jumped the gun. What’s done is done, folks!
I’m just eager to get off on the right foot and feel instead like I’m wobbling on stilts.

    A few concrete issues:
    – I am very confused by the language I see on Host Gator’s File Manager. I see three themes in the public_html, none of which are the current theme of my blog.
    – Do I still need to download a text editor?
    – What is the “chain of command” here? Say I want to… make a post. Do I interact solely with WP? Say I want to… upload a banner I intend to use repeatedly? Does this first start in my FTP, then go to Host Gator, then I see it on my blog and can insert when/where I please?

If this is all making you giggle, well you’re welcome.
If you could point me towards a “WordPress for Complete Morons” guide, I will consider the favor returned.
If you yourself have some words of wisdom, well it would be much appreciated!

    Hi fusilliali,

Are you looking for help with justanotherblogblog.com? Since it’s a WordPress.com site, there’s no need to perform any setup for it. You might want to take a look at the Learn WordPress guide to get yourself started!

Otherwise, since these forums are focused on helping users with their WordPress.com blogs, you may have better luck asking in the WordPress.org support forums.

For the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may wish to read the support article here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

You already have hosting for free. You do not need Hostgator for anything. You do not need FTP.
