Total Privacy
-
I thought my blog was private, it is not because like an idiot I used a name I am known by on Facebook and other places. How besides entirely changing my user name can I block people from seeing my blog. I have done what I can via the privacy settings, will that work in the future? This was for me, not the world to see, which is counter intuitive in the world of the blog o sphere, but it was my way of journaling and I think I have made a huge error. thx

Trying to view your WordPress.COM blog brought me to a “Protected Login” so no one can see your current blog.
But, if people know your username and go looking for you on Google, they’ll find the cached pages like I just did. You can wait until the pages are removed during the next crawl by the Googlebot or request that they be removed http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=136868&topic=13511

Also: for god’s sake, don’t use a picture of yourself as an avatar if privacy is a concern of yours.

Just Jennifer and Raincoaster, thanks for all the info and give a little slack please. It is all about not having bariatric surgery and getting control of food issues and I was thinking this would help, its cheaper then therapy. The picture was a reminder, maybe I should put one from 50 lbs ago, no one would recognize me.
Ok so that means the privacy setting I found are adequate for the future, and its just the first few weeks, I feel better.
I have an active facebook account and a fan page for where I work and I manage that so I have a clue, sort of.
Thank you so much I will do the googlebot.

Fair enough, but you asked about information on TOTAL privacy. That’s the information we provided.

and i thank you both and hopefully my thoughts will be my own. between FB and Twitter my life is out there enough, but social networking is the wave of the future, or the demise of our culture as we know it.
thanks again -

My posts are places as private but when I look things up on the internet, I can see them on google. Then when I click on it, one of the pages does fully open even though on my dashboard it is listed as private. I wonder if my computer opens it because of the cookies saved on my computer that recognize it?
Anyone know? And if there are items that are showing online, do we have a right to request that it be removed? I also noticed that some stuff gets syndicated so the same thing gets out there over and over again. That really clutters up the internet.

Try deleting the cookies and find out. Or try to see it on another computer. Also; if your blog was not private before, the stuff that was open to the public will still be available to search engine caches.
As for whether or not you have a right to ask things to be removed, well, you can try. Sometimes they do it, sometimes they don’t.
