Total web neaderthal needs advice on website vs blog, and how to get a host?
-
What is the difference between a blog and a website? I have just registered a domaine with you, and I want to be sure I set up the right kind of site.
Also, I need a host for my future website – please direct me to the correct link?
Thank you so much.

Hi there. A blog is a website, but a specific type of website that focuses on dynamic content, i.e. posts, that are updated regularly. That’s opposed to the more traditional idea of a website as a collection of static pages that doesn’t change very often.
On WordPress.com you can create both types of websites, though this platform is more suited towards dynamic blogging sites. See here how to make a more traditional type of website with WordPress.com: https://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/
If you registered a WordPress.com site, that site is hosted by WordPress.com. Your site hosting is free (with paid upgrades available) with unlimited bandwidth, 3GB of free storage and you are bound by the WordPress.com Terms of Service which has some restrictions on what you can and cannot do with your site.
If you actually want to have your own self-hosted website which you own and control completely, then you need to look at WordPress.org – same name, but a completely different and separate system. See here for more information on WordPress.org and hosting options with that platform: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
