Totally confused about site

I signed in to WP to look around and see how difficult it will be to build a site. I selected the FREE option. Now it appears that this is now MY site and I’m stuck. This is not the name of the site I hope to build; it was named automatically. I won’t want to keep this name or anything I might build in this site. How can I proceed to try things out, build a fake site, without being stuck with it? Also.. I have a domain already in GoDaddy that I will ultimately want to use. Do I have to get the free domain here?
