Totally lost…new domain name…
-
Just bought a domain name from Host Gator and wanted to use the name on my existing WordPress site. So, I tried to map it to the site, paid $13. It ‘looks like it’s okay’ on my admin screen and I even added a new post, but when I try to view it externally, it is not there. Here is the error I get:
The webpage at https://dietgourmetcook.com/?iframe=true&theme_preview=true&frame-nonce=8ac72d4881&cachebust=0 might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.I really want to ultimately transfer this to web hosting with Host Gator and have an independent site that is using WordPress, I currently have hosting through them and pay monthly for it. I guess it would then be referred to as a WordPress.org site? I am totally lost as to where to go from here. I would transfer it today, if I thought it would ‘go’ and am not interested in spending money for a premium WordPress site since I wouldn’t be staying. I know where the instructions are to transfer the site (on Host Gator), but am concerned it isn’t ready to ‘go’, that there is a bad error.
Please help, I am totally lost.
Debbie

Hi there,
For the domain mapping you added to work you need to complete one more step. You also need to pint the domain to us from Hostgator’s end. You do that by changing the domain’s name servers. Details here:
Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)
It’s not possible to transfer your domain to us, so while you can cancel your hosting with Hostgator once you have moved all your site’s content to us, you’ll need to keep the domain registered with them and renew it there every year.
