Toujour Gallery Image Size
-
I am a very basic WordPress user and blog just for family but my posts tend to be image heavy. I like using the Gallery feature to load multiple photos. The preview appears quickly but when you click on an image it takes forever to load.
I just resized all my images on my last post so the longest edge is no greater than 760 pixels and the gallery images are still taking a very long time to load at full size. I edit/export images using Lightroom.
Again, I’m a super basic user and could really use some help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I’m guessing you’re speaking of when you view your site’s homepage, correct?
I notice it’s taking a while on the homepage, but it’s much faster if I view a single post, like https://donamyquinn.com/2022/05/29/the-palouse-2/
If that’s the case on your end as well, the issue is simply the amount of content that needs to load on the front page – your homepage loads ten posts at a time, and all those posts contain a large number of images, and that means it takes longer for the code that makes the gallery carousel to work.
So what might help is to display fewer posts initially on the front page (Settings ->Writing under Feed Settings), and also consider showing only an excerpt of your posts on the front page rather than the full posts. You can do that by inserting the more-block in each post where you want the excerpt to end.

Can you check if that makes any difference for you?

Thank you kokkieh! I finally had a chance to sit down and try your suggestions.
The images loaded so much more quickly just by changing the number of posts on the front page. I also added the more block to my posts. It makes the front page so much cleaner too. Thanks for your help!
