Toujours Theme: featured slideshow not working
-
Hello,
I wanted to try a new theme and I installed the relatively new “Toujours” theme on my self-hosted site 858.photos – and I can’t get the “featured post slideshow” feature to work.
I’ve set the tag “featured” and configured it as hidden, checked the options in the Customizer multiple times, I have five posts tagged “featured” accordingly (they’re all gallery posts, although the post format doesn’t seem to matter), and they have featured images.
I also notice that the site tagline (which is supposed to appear below the slideshow) isn’t showing.
What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi
Have you had any success with this issue. My problem is the same. it seems I cannot create a slider also.

Just tried it all exactly as per the instructions and still no slider. I will keep trying

Hi both,
I did start working with the Toujours theme today. It took me a while but now the “featured post slide show” is up an running. I have 4 posts which run as a slide show (like the demo). This is what I did:
1. go to “Featured Content”
2. create a tag name in the field “Tag name” (I took “featured”)
3. edit the post you want to feature
4. click on “Categories & Tags”
5. click into (!) the field “Tags”
6. choose the Tag name you have given in 2. (for me “featured”)
7. click on “Update”That’s it. If you have a featured image with your post the image should appear below the headline. The headline of the featured blog is the text which appears in the text window on the left.
@antermoia: the tagline appears provided you have filled in a tagline under “Site Title, Tagline, and Logo”

The reason why I am in the forum is that the text of my blogs is running into the sidebar and beyond. Do you have these problems as well?
Thanks
Christian

No I have not had that problem yet as I use no text with my photos. I have tried everything you mentioned with no success for the slider.
I have tried including inserting a photo and also making a featured photo, tried just the inserted photo, then tried just the Featured photo with no luck. Which format did you use for yours to work?
I have included the word featured and did nor work, then I used Featured with a capital F and still did not work

Thank you @Christian, that’s exactly what I’m doing.
I see that your site is a wordpress.COM hosted blog. Ted (?) and I are using the “Toujours” theme on a SELF-hosted wordpress.ORG installation though (and I wouldn’t know where to get help for that theme, hence I posted here).
With regards to your text problem: that’s probably a race condition since your garbled nonsense test text doesn’t have any blanks. Add some spaces and it’ll go away.
For such trials, try using a “Lorem Ipsum” generator to produce text for testing: http://loremipsumgenerator.org/

Christian, thanks for sharing the steps you followed to create your slider. :) I think the reason your text is overlapping like that is you currently have no spaces with your dummy text – it’s all one long fake word. Try adding some spaces, or add real text instead of your temporary text.
That should solve the issue, but if you need further help, would you mind please starting a new thread here, as this one is about a different issue and already quite long. Thanks!

cyriltedsauriol – I replied to your other post about the slider on this site yesterday – could you please try following my suggestion there and let me know if it helps:
-
antermoia – since your site is self-hosted, I can’t see your dashboard to verify settings.
For me to try to replicate your issue, could you please provide:
– links to the five posts you’re trying to feature
– a screenshot of your Featured Content panel. Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot. You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or PDF – in your Media Library, and provide a link so I can see it, or upload it with a service like Imgur or Snaggy. -
Hello Kathryn, thanks for your help.
The five posts I wish to feature in the slider are the ones in the menu “Examples” on my site:
http://www.858.photos/kitchens/
http://www.858.photos/exterior/
http://www.858.photos/living-rooms/
http://www.858.photos/bedrooms/
http://www.858.photos/bathrooms/I’m using the tag “featured” http://www.858.photos/tag/featured/ and here’s the screenshot of the Customizer panel’s “Featured Content” section.
(I’ve tried all variations, even creating an entirely new tag, creating new posts, making the tag visible, making the tag contents visible, to no avail unfortunately).
Cheers

OOOPS! After looking at the other thread I see that featured images need to be at least 1160px wide. Dang, I didn’t check the grey box at the bottom of the theme page. I’ll try uploading larger pictures.
