Toujours Theme: featured slideshow not working

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello Kathryn,

I swapped out the featured images for the five posts for larger versions that are all matching the minimum requirements (they’re almost 1500px wide, and 1000px tall).

Just one example so you can double-check: http://www.858.photos/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Kitchen-104-HDR.jpg – this is the featured image for this post: http://www.858.photos/kitchens/

Unfortunately, no success. Here’s what I also tried:

I limited the number of “featured” posts to three (theme demo has four).

I changed the post format (they were “Gallery” for the five posts, I’ve changed it to “Standard”) but it doesn’t make any difference either.

I’ve tried with different browsers, emptied caches, etc.

Do you have any other idea?

    Thank you
    Alexander.

PS: I tried it with one of my personal wordpress.COM hosted blogs, and it works instantly, even if the images do NOT meet the size requirements.

For the sake of simplicity I selected “toni” (my dog) as the “featured” tag: https://alexinsd.wordpress.com/ (I don’t intend to keep the theme on that site though;-)

It shows a total of eight posts as featured (there are more, so that seems to be the theme’s limit).

  • Alexander – thanks for the testing!

I’m not yet sure what the issue is – I have no trouble creating a slideshow on my self-hosted test site – but at this point I’d like to move us over to the WordPress.org forum, since these forums are really for WordPress.com users and we’ll need to go deeper into some self-hosted troubleshooting.

Toujours has been submitted to the WordPress.org directory, and once it’s accepted it’ll have its own support forum at https://wordpress.org/support/theme/toujours

In the meantime, could you please go ahead and post in the WordPress.org general themes forum:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forum/themes-and-templates

Tag your post with wpcom-theme in the tags area to be sure it will get my attention:

    WordPress Support Themes and Templates

Also feel free to return to this thread and post a link to point me to your new .org post.

You’ll need a free WordPress.org account to post – if you don’t already have one, you can register here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/register.php

    Thanks a lot!

    Hello Kathryn,

thank you for your continued assistance. I have posted in the WordPress.org forum as requested, this is the link: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/featured-content-slider-in-toujours-theme-doesnt-work

I have added the wpcom-theme tag as well.

Thanks for pointing me to the right forum. :)
    Alexander.

  • Thanks a lot, Alexander – I’ll see you there. :)

    Hello,

Why aren’t my pages showing up for this theme?

Hi janetbarronphoto! I don’t see a site on your account using Toujours theme currently.

If you have a question about another theme or are using this one elsewhere, please feel free to start a new thread in the Themes forum with your questions and a link to the website you need help with. :)

My blog http://www.armitafibri.com. Featured slideshow and pictures on three most recent posts do not work. Can you help me?

I just installed the Toujours theme on a self-hosted WP installation, and I don’t even see “featured content” under the customizer. What am I missing? Anyone else see this problem?

We provide support only for wordpress.COM hosted sites. Our support docs do not apply to
    (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server or
    (2) wordpress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, and we do not provide support for them at wordpress.COM.

You are posting to the wrong support forum.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

As you are referring to a site that is not hosted here, if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

  • k12evolved – on self-hosted site you need to activate the Jetpack plugin to use Featured Content in Toujours.

menarahati – I see a slider on your site, did you get this working as you’d like?

    SOLUTION

I’ve had issues where a post, with a featured image, that was tagged as “featured”, was simply not being displayed in the top slider. This definitely is a bug. But I figured out a way to nudge the theme to behave:

With your posts all set up with a “featured” tag and featured image:

    1. go to “Featured Content”
    2. “x” out the “featured” tag already there (or whatever tag you used)
    3. Type “featured” back in again (or whatever tag you used)
    4. Save

This seems forces the database to do re-index all “featured” blog posts and it then correctly displays them.

Note: I am using hosted wordpress.
