Trackbacks

I know that this is something that has been raised a few times before, but one of the frustrations of WP.com is that trackbacks are still not working.
I guess you’re probably still working on this – Trackbacks are such an important part of blogging that WordPress feels incomplete without them.
I don’t mean to sound too negative. WP.com is great and I’m amazed that it’s improving each week. The sidebar editor and spell check that you’ve recently added are awesome. Get the trackbacks working and I’ll be a truly loyal user.

I tend to believe the TB problem here is on an individual basis.
I’ve had my blog here for nearly six months and have never had a single TB failure in sending or receiveing one.

I’ve had no issues with users here leaving trackbacks on my blogs. Working fine with me. Feel free to use my site if you want a test. (Just please don’t spam it like SOME people have. :) )

I have no problems with trackbacks if I list only one. However, if I try to list multiple trackbacks for a posting, only the first one appears to work properly. Any suggestions? The directions say to separate trackback url’s with a space and that is exactly what I have been doing.

When you bring the post in question back up in the “edit post” window, is it listing the other ping backs?

Yes. It does list the other ping backs, but they never show up at the pinged sites. Only the first one listed works properly.

Well, I have no way of knowing for sure. At least one of the sites I have tried to ping will allow trackbacks to posts with alternative viewpoints, so I don’t know why they wouldn’t include mine. But, who knows? If no one else is experiencing the same issue, then I have to assume the other sites are blocking my trackback pings. Thanks for responding.

If ytou want to test it, please feel free to hit my blog. My trackbacks are open. I moderate them afterwards except for the spamers.

I do not see it. From which post did you send it from on your blog? I don’t see it on my end either nor in my spam catcher. (It has a lot of detail in there)

I sent it from my most recent post, “I Pledge Allegiance” and when I open this post in the ‘edit’ mode, it tells me that this address was pinged: http://drmikesblog.cynixhosting.com/2006/04/05/pimping-weblog-tools-collection/

No, I don’t see it on this end. Trackback should be the following though:
http://drmikesblog.cynixhosting.com/2006/04/05/pimping-weblog-tools-collection/trackback/
But it should be working with just the page as well. (At least it has in the past.) Please try it with the trackback on the end. Usually the link like you have it goes within the post as a link. Should still pick up though.

Ok. I tried it again, using the url with ‘trackback.’
I also went back and looked at the url’s of the other trackbacks that didn’t appear to work. All of them were copied and pasted exactly as the website listed the trackback url to use. None of them had the word, “trackback” in the url. Is this something unique to wordpress, or should I be adding that to every url for a particular post that I want to ping with a trackback?
Again, I have had no problems with the first trackback url that I enter. The problem only seems to occur with subsequent url’s.

You came through that time. Hit the spam traps though. Not sure why. Most posts that I’ve trackbacked to have included the ‘trackback’ bit or something simular. Maybe I’m just used to seeing WP blogs or something. But I always just copy and paste the trackback URL from the post I’m viewing as well.

Just for clarifaction, the “trackback” section for the WP url is specific for WP. Other blogging systems use a slightly different url structure.

There may be an issue as the April Orange did not show a trackback for it.
