Trackbacks

Akismet keeps catching Trackbacks for me. That’s apparently a good thing. Can someone please explain to me how these miscellaneous businesses are showing up in my trackbacks? What exactly is happening? How are they in any way connected to me? Can I do anything to prevent it from happening?
    Thanks

PS Why isn’t there a SEARCH feature for the 514 pages here? I’d probably have already found the answer if there was one.

Trackback’s are a pretty common spamming technique. If Akismet is catching them and they are not showing up on your blog, that is a good thing! If you have one hit your blog, make sure you mark it as “spam” so that Akismet learns and will prevent further ones from getting through to your blog.

Basically, trackbacks are just links back to your blog when someone “links” to a particular entry you created. It is a way to “further the discussion” if someone else writes a topic that they linked to you on. It however, comes with the abuse of spam.

You can turn trackbacks on your blog off in a “post by post” basis by unchecking the “allow pings” checkbox in the “discussion” tab on the right side of a post when creating or editing it.
