trackbacks settings

I know nothing about trackbacks and have not done any settings for them on my blogs. May I have step by step instructions for how to do these settings the regulus theme and on the andreas 09 theme please. Also a brief statement of what they are would be useful.Yes I have read the FAQ but the words there did not tell me what trackbacks are. When one would use them and for what purpose they would be used.

I have now read the FAQ several time on trackbacks and I think I comprehend what’s being expressed – maybe.

You shouldn’t have to be doing any settings for trackbacks. It’s just a matter of copying over the url of the trackback or pingback on the page you’re talking about into the line that says “Send trackbacks to:”

Thanks for your answer drmike. I found the line you refer to in a post I made this morning and I typed my own http://islandeaglewatch.wordpress.com url into it. Should I have been doing this on every post I make? I’m sorry that I’m so dense – I really don’t get it. But, if I should be doing this on every post or only in some situations (which ones?)please let me know and I will edit all the posts I’ve made because I left this trackback line blank in all of the others.

I would only do it if you’re referencing something at the other blog. Think of it like a footnote from your school days and writing term papers.

Whew! Footnote was a key word for me drmike. Thank Gob I don’t have to edit all those posts. In fact I have been doing this “trackbacking” by linking to source websites within the body of my posts where appropriate and also in my sources/references section at the end of them. But now I know that when I’m citing only a single web derived source there is a special spot to put the url in. Tx :D
